Child Support in Quebec

Quebec uses its own calculation model rather than the Federal Child Support Guidelines. The Quebec model considers both parents' incomes and calculates a 'basic parental contribution' based on the child's needs. Each parent contributes proportionally to their income.

The model uses a table based on combined family income and number of children to determine the basic parental contribution. This is then allocated between parents based on their respective incomes. Custody time affects the calculation.

Beyond the basic contribution, parents share special expenses proportionally: childcare costs, health care not covered by insurance, educational expenses, extracurricular activities, and post-secondary education costs.

Quebec requires the completion of the child support determination form (Form C) in all cases involving child support. This form calculates support using the Quebec model and must be filed with the court.
