Child Custody in Ohio

Ohio courts use the best interests standard. Shared parenting requires a shared parenting plan approved by the court. The court cannot order shared parenting over a parent's objection.

Ohio uses an income shares model based on the combined gross income of both parents. The guidelines produce a presumptive child support amount that can be adjusted for factors such as extraordinary medical expenses, childcare costs, and extended parenting time.
